It really wasn't fully my decision to make this blog; I was coerced. I can probably go ahead and strike writer off my list of potential career paths; I deeply resented having to write book reports in the 4th grade, and 12 years later I realize that that was not simply because I hated my teacher, Mr. Simpson. Writing for the sake of writing just isn't my favorite pastime.
So getting back to the explanatory part, I'm blogging for the following reasons:
1. I am bored, and this hobby seems more conducive to fulfilling my aspirations of becoming a respectable member of society than some of my other options, including but not limited to becoming a street performer, forming a drug habit, or creepily and excessively people-watching in Central Park.
2. Symmetry is nice, and I blogged (similarly against my will) while I lived in Paris last year.
3. It was recently brought to my attention that a blog is a good way to showcase one's writing abilities/personality for potential employers.
4. I knew Dean would badger me about it until I caved anyway.
I hope you enjoy reading this in the coming weeks and months.
I'm writing from the third Starbucks I've been in today.

I think three in one day is my record, but I'm sure I'll break that soon. Why am I spending so much time in Starbucks(es)? Primarily due to my continued homelessness situation (staying with Bridget this week) and the fact that they now have free wi-fi, but also because I find its familiarity comforting in this new city. With all the resources NYC has to offer, I still find myself gravitating to restaurants, cafés, stores, etc. that I've at least heard of before. The Lite Choice probably has delicious frozen yogurt, but I'm still going to walk the extra block to Tasti D-lite because it was once mentioned on an episode of Sex and the City. Brand-whore, I know.
